Universal To Write-Down ‘The Huntsman’ After Box Office Disaster

The Huntsman: Winter’s War received an icy reception upon it’s release and as a result Universal stands to lose big on the followup to 2012’s Snow White and the Huntsman. As reported by Variety Universal stands to lose as much as $70 million on the film which opened to a cold $19.4 million in it’s first weekend domestically.

Despite the film still being in theaters, it is only expected to do $55 million in the US with another $150 million overseas. That is roughly half of the $396 million brought in by the films predecessor. Audience reactions have been mixed on the film and critics widely criticized the sequel as being bland with no heart or real substance. With an all star cast many held high hopes for the first big flop of 2016.
